Celebrating Arts Achievement!

Avenues of Expression is a Chemung ARC arts program that celebrates achievement in the arts of people with developmental disabilities. Member artists of Avenues of Expression are pleased to continue their involvement with the Elmira Street Painting Festival and participate again in 2011.

Avenues of Expression and the Elmira Street Painting Festival

Prior to the launch of the Avenues of Expression program, a few individuals that receive day habilitation services through Chemung ARC’s recreation program attended the 2009 Elmira Street Painting Festival. Watching the artists creating stunning visual images on pavement was the talk of the group for weeks following. “We were especially fascinated by how some people use a grid system to transfer their design to the street,” states John Domanski, activities team leader for Chemung ARC. Active participants in last year’s festival, Avenues of Expression artists are planning ahead and looking forward to this year’s projects.

“One of our goals with our arts program is to provide artists with disabilities the opportunity to participate and collaborate with others in community arts projects in order to enhance creative expression and artistic growth. ESPF fits this objective perfectly,”
